Among these, the creation of a striking rooftop garden equipped with a rainwater recovery and filtration system for irrigation, and the installation of a photovoltaic system consisting of 105 panels of 550W and 200 tiles of 80W, with an estimated annual output of 75 MWh.

The body of the Cards - manufactured for Banca Passadore by G+D Mobile Security - is made of minimum 90% poly lactic acid (PLA), a material made from vegetables (mainly corn). Our Eco-Friendly Cards are produced from renewable biomass and perfectly fit today's environmentally friendly policies and the preference for renewable resources. This is the first case in Italy of a widespread usage of this innovative material for payment cards and represents a significant positive step in the direction of environmental care.

PLA, an eco-friendly material

PLA is a bio-sourced (made from vegetables) and compostable material.

Plant growth consumes CO2. This CO2 compensates the possible release of CO2 in the end of life of the plant, thus creating a zero-sum CO2 product.

PLA used for Carta Banca Passadore and CARTA CONTO is according EN 13432, an European standard which covers the following fields of metrics:

  • Degradability in compostable environment (at minimum temperature, pressure, and humidity)
  • Absence of heavy metals
  • Eco toxicity: it doesn’t affect ecosystems

Corn used to produce the PLA is a mix of GMO and non-GMO corn. PLA manufacturer compensates the use of GMO corn buying the equivalent quantity of non-GMO corn.
PLA material used is produced according to sustainable biomass (ISCC PLUS certified).
The manufacturer of the PLA sheets used in Natural cards certificates the sheets are 90% PLA minimum.

How PLA is obtained?

  • Selected vegetables (mainly corn) are put through a milling process extracting the starch (glucose)
  • Enzymes are added to convert the glucose to dextrose via a process called hydrolysis
  • Microorganisms then ferment this dextrose into lactic acid
  • A two-step process transforms lactic acid molecules into rings of lactide, which is a valuable chemical on its own and the core of the customizable platform of chemical intermediates
  • In the process of polymerization, the lactide ring is opened and linked together to form the long chain of polylactide polymer called PLA
  • This long chain of PLA is shaped into pellets

How are Carta Banca Passadore and CARTA CONTO manufactured?

PLA pellets are shipped to the film supplying partner which turns them into PLA films, according to G+D Mobile Security's process and specific parameters. PLA films are brought to the producer's manufacturing facilities, where cards are produced and then provided to the Bank.
